As 2010 draws to a close and we anticipate the new decade before us, I share with you a Bible verse that has been a source of strength and encouragement for me so that it might be a blessing to you:

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
and whose hope is in the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
which spreads out its roots by the river,
and it will not fear when heat comes; but it’s leaf will be green,
and it will not be anxious in the year of the drought.
Nor will it cease from yielding fruit.
Jer 17: 7-8

Trusting and hoping in God are easy when times are good. But when the going gets tough – because of some personal crisis, health challenge, relationship difficulty or financial need – our trust and hope in God are put to the test. Helping you find trust and hope in these times is at the heart of the mission of My Catholic Faith Ministries right now.  This year we have reached out to hundreds of thousands of Catholics with a message of trust and hope – in our Lord Jesus Christ and in His Church – especially those experiencing “a year of drought” (as Jeremiah did).

Leading a non-profit ministry to Catholics is always a privilege but it has never been easy. I am challenged every day to look to my Heavenly Father for direction, strength and provision. There are seasons in ministry, times when I look to God for clear direction for the ministry. Other times I am begging God for the spiritual anointing to accomplish that direction. The past year has been a time when I have been specially focused on asking the Lord for the financial provision we need to continue our mission. As a result, we have cut back on staff and initiatives. In addition, several staff members including myself have taken significant pay cuts – while working more hours – in order to help the ministry get through these lean economic times.

More than ever, your financial support would be such a great help to the ministry at this time. Your donation would literally be an answer to my prayer for God’s provision to us.

Your contribution will help us to accomplish our mission in 2011.

Books Published by My Catholic Faith Press

I am excited to announce the publication of the third book in the Series on the Sacraments, Marriage: A Gift from God, which will be out in April of 2011.

Marriage: A Gift from God

The institution of marriage is under siege in our culture and even in our Church. The number of Catholic couples marrying outside the church is at an all time high. What has happened to the sacrament of marriage? Why do so many marriages seem to be built on a less than firm foundation? In this book, I help married couples encounter the true joy that marriage offers, as well as build a marriage that will withstand the trials and storms of married life.

We will need $7000 in funding to publish the first run of this new book on marriage and I am looking for donors to personally invest in this project.  If you are interested in supporting this work, please indicate your interest on the donor card.   I will look forward to talking with you.

Many of you have read one or both of the first two books in the Series on the Sacraments: (make these Links)

The Mass: Four Encounters with Jesus that Will Change Your Life

Confession: Five Sentences that Will Heal Your Life

These books have sold over 16,000 copies and as I travel to parishes giving talks on these topics (and meeting many of you!) I hear countless testimonies from Catholics whose lives have been transformed by the messages in these books.  The following is an example…

I purchased the [Mass book] and shared it with a man visiting from Alaska who is discerning becoming a priest. He read it overnight and said he couldn’t put it down, even woke at 3am to finish reading it… He was clearly impacted by your book and with tears in his eyes, couldn’t thank me enough for lending it to him.

Pro-Life, Pro-Pramily Resources by Prof. Janet E. Smith

My Catholic Faith Press is now the sole producer of Prof. Smith’s CD and DVD materials, including the world-famous talk Contraception: Why Not (in both the Classic and Revised and Updated Editions) and 14 other straight-shooting, pro-life presentations.  Here is a sampling of these titles:

Hormones R US Homosexuality: Why Not Theology of the Body
Premarital Sex is Stupid Culture of Life vs. Culture of Death And more…

Prof. Janet E. Smith interprets the Church’s teaching on issues related to human sexuality in a way that is understandable and relevant to our culture today.  But most importantly, her messages cause people to encounter the truth, and make decisions for LIFE.  Over one million copies of Janet Smith’s Contraception: Why Not message have been distributed worldwide and most of these have been given away for FREE.   This method of free CD distribution has been a highly effective tool for evangelization and the spreading of the pro-life, pro-family message so clearly stated in this presentation.  Please help us to continue to distribute these powerful resources, both nationally and internationally, and counteract the culture of death that is so prevelant in this world with a message of LIFE and HOPE for all who are open.

Digital Outreach and Social Media

More and more we are becoming a digital culture who looks to the internet for our news, social interaction and even our faith formation.  That’s why I am working to make MyCatholicFaith.org a “go-to” source for Catholics looking to grow in their faith.  At MyCatholicFaith.org you will find interesting blogs, podcasts of radio programs, free pdfs of books, downloads of Catholic teachings, online courses, a store full of faith-forming resources, as well as a Daily Scripture Video Reflection that is posted daily on Facebook.  Our Facebook fan club, “I Love My Catholic Faith” is at 14,355 members and rising every day, and 234 of you became members of MyCatholicFaith.org this year (See the Blue Box for more details!)

The internet is here to stay and it is a powerful tool for evangelization and growth.  We have plans to revamp our website and incorporate more interactive, LIVE video tools to help you, and the millions on the web, to live a faith-centered life in this secular world.   Be sure to check out the website in January to see the re-design and the NEW video tools in action!

•    You believe in the mission of this ministry to help Catholics understand, explore and live out their faith, or

•    You would like to help meet the financial need we face as a charity in these tough economic times

If you are able to give financially, please be assured of these things:

•    Trinity Formation Resources is proud to be a “Resource to the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle.” This means we operate with the support of the Archbishop of Seattle.
•    All that we teach is in accord with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
TFR Staff

•    My co-workers and I work with dedication and efficiency. We choose to work for a ministry where we make less money than we could elsewhere.

•    We are faithful stewards: on average only 8% of our yearly expenditures go to fundraising.

•    Trinity Formation Resources is a federally approved, non-profit, 501(c) (3) charitable organization. All of your contributions are tax deductible.

The faithful love of Jesus Christ gives our lives meaning and purpose, and helps us discover the amazing plan that God has for our lives.  I hope you are confident in His attentive love and tender care for you at this time. Through your financial and prayerful support of Trinity Formation Resources, we will continue to be bold and strong in proclaiming this message in every way the Lord asks in the coming year.

With sincere gratitude for all of your support through the years and today, I pray that you know God’s
Peace and all good things,

Dr. Tom Curran,
Executive Director

P.S.  Yes, as we read in Jeremiah, if you are trusting in the Lord for your future right now, then you are truly blessed.  I know I trust Him for my future, my family’s future and the future of this ministry in these tough economic times.   I recently took a 17% cut in my salary and laid off 5 employees in order to keep the ministry financially solvent and, in this way, it has been a “year of drought for us”.   But the Lord tells us not to fear or be anxious when the heat is on, but instead, to trust in Him all the more. Helping you and other Catholics draw near to God, understand His truth and experience His fruitfulness in your life is at the heart of all we do as a ministry.  I am here to serve you; my staff is here to serve you, in all the ways I have described in this letter.   Your financial contribution today will help us continue to serve you, and others, in your journey of faith.  Thank you so much for your support.    (Insert Donate Button here)
