Dr. Tom Curran and Family at the 50th Anniversary of Tom's parent's

The Curran Family at 50th Anniversary of Tom's parents

There Is More!  -  That’s the message I feel compelled to share with you and other Catholics as we launch into the Year of Faith. There is more... of God's love, God's mercy and God's joy to receive and to share. And God is waiting to lavish all of this on us and so much more, as we develop our faith in Jesus Christ. I want every Catholic to discover this truth in this Year of Faith. Even more, I want you, me and all of us to experience it in our lives.

God has called me to spend my life serving Catholics—it is a privilege to do so through My Catholic Faith Ministries. I feel a deep desire to help Catholics like you to understand, explore and live out your faith more deeply. But because I direct a non-profit ministry, I need the help of many co-laborers--people like you who are willing to support me, my family and my staff in this important work. The pages of this letter share with you some (not all) of the ways that My Catholic Faith Ministries is reaching out to Catholics that have no idea that THERE IS MORE! I hope as you read that you will be encouraged and also give generously. I would not ask for your help if we did not have financial need. Right now, the ministry is facing a shortfall of $31,000 in our 2012 budget. Even so, we are working hard to use the funding we do have to help Catholics experience that THERE IS MORE!

I begin this letter with a simple story. God delights in answering the prayers of His children in big things and little things. I hope you will read this story and contemplate the MORE that God has for you as we begin this Year of Faith. Here is the story:

Kari and I have nine children. In recent years, several of our older children have discovered the joys of soccer. This means that we spend many of our weekends on the soccer field cheering them on, rain or shine. So our family was thrilled when one Saturday morning we were given two tickets to the Seattle Sounders game happening the next day. When Kari asked our kids, “Who should Dad take to the game with him?” My kids were all united in their one word answer, “ME!” Unfortunately, there was no easy solution. A plan emerged from the bedlam; a plan that made perfect sense to my kids. Why not pray that God would give us more tickets at Mass tomorrow? Of course, the perfect plan! So pray they did. Then, they waited in faith for the tickets to arrive.

The next morning we were running late and so we changed our plans and attended a parish we normally didn’t. After church, we stayed for coffee and donuts to visit with some friends (not our normal routine). As we were visiting, a woman walked in the room and walked up to my kids with an envelope in her hand. She asked them, “Do you need tickets to the Seattle Sounders soccer game tonight? I have six tickets all together in a row.” Okay, I admit it. My jaw dropped to the floor. But my kids—they didn’t miss a beat. They were overjoyed as they dragged me to this kind woman to accept the tickets. Of course God answered their prayer. They had faith in a God that cares about the little things in our lives as well as the big. They had faith in a God that delights in giving good gifts to His children. They knew that God had MORE for them if they would simply put their faith and trust in Him.

This story illuminates what this ministry is all about. We exist to help you and other Catholics discover that THERE IS MORE. God longs to reveal Himself to us more fully if we will only put our faith in Him and walk more fully in relationship with Him. In this Year of Faith this ministry is producing resources and planning events to help you and other Catholics discover that THERE IS MORE. Your immediate donation will fund this work:

Devotionals: A Doorway into Prayer and Reflection

Enter Through the Door of Faith - BookWe develop our relationship with God when we spend time with Him. A good devotional helps you to enter into prayer and reflection on the Word of God. Enter Through the Door of Faith is a NEW devotional that we have published for your Year of Faith journey. In it you will find excerpts from scripture, each with a corresponding reflection to help you understand its meaning and relate it to your life. The Year of Faith is a time to discover and experience more deeply the personal relationship with God that is available to each of us. This devotional is a tool to help you discover that THERE IS MORE for you in your relationship with God.

Look for another NEW devotional this spring that will lead you through the 40 Days of your Lenten Journey!

Sound Insight Radio: A Voice of Life in a Culture of Death

It is not always easy to speak the truth in the culture we live in, especially with the recent attacks against the Church’s teaching in the areas of religious freedom, contraception, and same sex marriage. But I have been called by God to do just that. If I did not fulfill this call to teach according to the truth of scripture and Church teaching, then I would be hiding my light under a bushel basket and failing to stand against this drift into the culture of death. I take this call seriously. I care deeply about your eternal welfare.

Each day on the radio, you will hear the truth expressed boldly with conviction. You will hear stories and humor that are filled with life-giving insights to encourage you in your faith. And you will hear teaching expressed in a real and personal manner, with words that bring hope, healing and wisdom to you as you walk through life. Tens of thousands of people listen to Sound Insight every day, and during this Year of Faith they will discover that THERE IS MORE to their faith then they ever imagined or have experienced! I hope you will be one of them.

Pro-life, Pro-family Resources: Taking a Stand for Life

My Catholic Faith Ministries is the sole producer of audio resources by Prof. Janet Smith. Prof. Smith’s most famous talk, Contraception: Why Not continues to be the “go-to” resource on the Church’s teaching on contraception, with over 2 million CDs distributed worldwide. Understanding the church’s position on birth control is even more important given the HHS mandate and governmental attacks on our religious freedom. And yet, according to USA Today, 58% of Catholics question or misunderstand the Church's teaching on contraception.  How can we change this? Our answer to is get this teaching into the hands of as many people as possible. This year we have:

Offered the CD for FREE to all Seminarians in the U.S. – JanetESmith.com offers a free CD to any seminarian that submits a request. Please spread the word to any seminarians that you may know.

Offered FREE CDs to Catholic Bookstores – We are reaching out to Catholic bookstores across the nation with FREE CD offers and free promotional posters. Many are now carrying the CD and promoting it to their customers.

NEW You Tube video!
– What do monkeys and t-shirts have to do with The Pill? Watch our new You Tube video to find out. It’s a short, simple message that is entertaining and enlightening, but most of all it contains information that most people have never heard about The Pill. This information is LIFE CHANGING for many young women.

Mothers, tell you daughters. Aunts, tell your nieces. We want this video to go viral! Every young woman needs to hear the truths in this message before she begins to date and make choices about contraception. Please check it out and pass it on.

The Gift Conferences: Experiecing God’s Presence

God sees you as a gift - a unique, irreplaceable, precious gift to Him and to this world. When you see yourself this way, your life and the lives of those around you are transformed. This “Gift Message”, from John Paul II’s Theology of the Person, is the inspiration for The Gift Conference, which is an annual, day-long event designed to help Catholics not just learn about, but experience the Lord’s presence and power in their lives. And in 2013, we are adding a Gift of Women conference, where woman can come and to be renewed and discover the “Gift Message” for themselves. I hope you will join me at one of these life-giving events.

The Gift of Faith - Feb. 9, 2013, St. Stephen the Martyr Church, Renton. Register at GiftConference.org or by calling (800)838-3006 (24/7).

The Gift of Women Conference – May 4, 2013, St. Monica Church, Mercer Island.

Our Assurance to You

MCFM Staff Left to Right: Sharon Fox, John Anderson, Lori Georgeson, Tom Curran, Suzanne Lindergren, (not pictured: Amy D’Angelo, Julie Reil, Tristan Beach and Jonny Georgeson)

Your donations are needed. If you are able to give, please be assured of these things:
  • My Catholic Faith Ministries operates with the support of the Archbishop of Seattle.
  • All that we teach is in accord with the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • We are faithful stewards: on average only 8% of our yearly expenditures go to fundraising.
  • My Catholic Faith Ministries is a federally approved, non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization. All of your contributions are tax deductible.

The Lord longs to draw close to you and reveal Himself to you in the big and the small things in your life. Like the Seattle Sonic tickets miracle, He longs for us to bring our cares to Him and trust Him for for all we need. He is a God of miracles. He is a God who cares and He wants to show us that THERE IS MORE…so much more of Him to experience if we are willing to be “all in” with our lives. This is the truth. And it is my joy to preach it.

I would so much rather teach the truth of the gospel than ask for support. It is never easy to write this year end letter to let you know of our need for funding. And I would not ask if the need were not great. But it is. Please consider making a donation to help us close our year end deficit of $31,000. And I hope you will also consider taking advantage of one of the many opportunities for growth that this ministry has made available to you in this Year of Faith.

With sincere gratitude for all of your support through the years and today, I pray that you know God’s
Peace and all good things,

Dr. Tom Curran,
Executive Director

P.S. What Will Your Donation accomplish?

Your generous donation right now will help me support my family and the staff of this ministry and close the significant year end deficit we are facing. Your generous donation right now will help Catholics discover that THERE IS MORE – more of God’s love, joy, and mercy than they may have ever imagined or experienced. And your donation will fund the specific efforts listed in this letter.
If you believe in what I am doing, then please give. If you have been personally touched by this ministry, then please give. If you want to help us meet our budget this year, then please give generously. I cannot serve the Lord in ministry without your help. Thank you so much for your support. May the Lord richly bless you in 2013.

We're thrilled to present Attraction 101, a short video inspired by the shocking and powerful truths revealed in Prof. Janet E. Smith's ground-breaking presentation Contraception: Why Not.  Our hope is that this video will raise awareness of Prof. Smith's work and the dangers of contraception.

For that reason, we've made this video specifically for young women who have never heard of the dangerous effects the pill can have on their relationships.  We hope that you will share this video with others, so that little by little our culture will see the harms of contraception!
