The Golden Bowl of Prayer
Welcome to the Golden Bowl of Prayer, the prayer blog with a mixing of God's nourishing Word from the daily Mass and liturgy of the hours, to help feed your soul.  The Golden bowl image is inspired by the book of Revelation, where we see the prayers of the holy ones  being poured out in praise before God's heavenly throne. 7 X 7 = Infinite Mercy $+

Lord, Your sacred heart is the universal 'Bank of Mercy'. Piled high before our eyes, shimmering and golden, is our inheritance of eternal worth beyond measure. Today, You call us to take account, to "pay back in full",  ( Matt 18:26)  according to the mercy, forgiveness and love we have each received in  Your richness. This treasury of grace comes at a cost that Jesus paid with His life, so we might live debt free.

Father and giver of all gifts, You call us today to spend ourselves in your economy of mercy. May we live as a 'mercy coupon', a 7 X 70 heavenly punch card, to redeem each day in the occasions you put before us to reveal Your rich love. As card carrying members of Your bank of mercy, help us Lord to be lavish stewards of this priceless gift. Grant us great vaults of patience as we wait upon those in our lives to make good on Your loan, not becoming like the master of servants in today's gospel who grew weary and finally 'started to choke' and demand his payback. (Matt 18:33) God's Word today beckons us to 'be patient", "have pity on your fellow servant", "remember Your mercy" and "forgive your neighbors injustices", (Sirach 28;2-4) so as to repay the dept Jesus paid in full for each of us beggars. God grant that our hearts would be a Fort Knox of Your benevolent love and mercy. Gift our spirits with lotto winning joy in paying it forward to all on account of Jesus's name+

The Golden Bowl of Prayer

When are we most thirsty and for what do we thirst? Lord in Your designs, man cannot live without water and more so, our souls cannot live without being filled afresh with YOU. The desert wilderness is our friend if we allow the Son to work upon us, beating down with His rays of grace to make us cry out for that which only He alone can quench within us.  Lord, foster in us an ardent, blazing thirst for You, deep and yearning. Help us spring towards You with greater bounds as the deer "that longs for running waters." (Psalm 43) Lead us Lord to the cool streams that satisfy our taste for holiness.

Father in Heaven, increase our longing and desire for a thirst that only You can quench. Turn to distaste, those murky, tainted waters that contaminate our souls. Pour out anew Lord, as we seek the sweet oasis of YOU in this desert journey, through deeper contemplation, greater sacrifice and more effervescent love. Strengthen us God, to keep step with You in the shifting hot sands of temptation towards new and greater life at Easter.  Make "athirst (our)  souls for the living God." (Psalm 42) Father pour forth anew into our chalice hearts,  fresh, pure, intoxicating waters of life, so that we may thirst as Jesus did from the cross to bring many to new life in Christ+

The Tip of God's Finger
The Golden Bowl of Prayer

Father in heaven, You are close at hand, Your mighty finger tip poised to touch our hearts, touch our minds and point us in the way we are to go with you today. In Your Word today we listen to the 'rich man' cry out for God's mercy after living sumptuously and dying, facing the reality of the netherworld.  "Have pity on me...send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames." This scene is sobering and points us to sincerely reflect and allow God to 'probe the mind, and test the heart. " Lord grant us keen insight to our sins that leave us like Lazarus covered in sores and filling ourselves with scraps from the table of this world. ( Luke: 19-31)

In our Lenten wilderness, God's finger points us to remove the 'chasms' in our lives than separate us from union with Him, to cross over from death into newness of life.  The rich man begs us to listen, "Repent', as he  sends warning "lest they too come to this place of torment.'  Lord, we will be persuaded and make haste to the door of God's grace, Jesus who waits for an encounter with us in the sacrament of Reconciliation. With the tip of His finger, dipped into saving waters of grace, He motions to us to come and receive forgiveness and mercy, washed in the peace of His love. Jesus, together this Lent, help us bring many to a homecoming of heart in You so You may refresh and restore many who are weary, tormented and separated from You! In Christ we pray, Amen+

Wish to be Great!
The Golden Bowl of Prayer

Father in heaven, today we give ourselves to you as a penny in your hand. Your wish is our wish, may Your will be ours today. With joy we surrender to movement of the spirit, knowing and trusting that 'in Your hands is my destiny." (Psalm 31) Toss us where You will, for like a penny, our hearts  bear your seal, 'In God we Trust' (Psalm 31). Every penny knows that it will land safely in the wishing waters where it is sent; increase our confidence Lord in Your oceans of mercy where we live and move and find our being.

Great is God's love for us. His Word today invites us to great love in service to all. "Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as ransom for many." Matt 20: 28  Lord of our lives, "we will sacrifice with a willing heart and praise your name!" Psalm 54  Lord bless our hands and hearts to work in union as slaves to Love itself. Finally, Father you wished for Your beloved Son to be 'handed over' for the good of all ( Matt 20:18) We pray that in the heads and tails of this day, our penny worth is found solely in spending ourselves entirely in love for You!+

Practice Makes Present
The Golden Bowl of Prayer

Lord Jesus, in your Word today you spoke to the crowd and we respond as one who hears. It is 'Spring Training' in Christendom and as the leader and perfecter of our faith, You blow the whistle of accusation on each of us, calling us to a prayerful 'time out' and reflection to see if truly, we are 'practicing what we preach'. Jesus makes the call on our hypocrisy, the bit of Pharisees in each of us and warns, "Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice...they will not lift a finger...All their works are to be seen". Matthew 23:1-5

Dear Lord, train us up anew in this season of Lenten renewal. We do not want to be mere spectators, nor benchwarmers who are suited up but lack desire to compete well for the Cross out of love for You.  Strengthen our hands to serve YOU in prayer, "to put away (our) misdeeds' which make us slothy and out of shape spiritually.  "Let us set things right" and by your grace, conquer our 'stubbornness  which sidelines and 'withdraws our hearts" (Sirach 10:7-12) from YOu. Jesus, help us be victorious in You and lead us through death to self into greater life and joy in Christ. Lord, You must increase and we must decrease!+++Ready to practice??? Yes, Lord, here I am Lord,  send in me!!!
