Introduction: 487 What the Catholic faith believes about Mary is based on what it believes about Christ, and what it teaches about Mary illumines in turn its faith in Christ.
1. Mary and the Trinitarian Plan of Salvation:
1)Mary’s predestination by the Father: 488 From all eternity God chose for the mother of his Son a daughter of Israel, a young Jewish woman of Nazareth in Galilee, "a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary". 423 The Annunciation to Mary inaugurates "the fullness of time", the time of the fulfillment of God's promises and preparations.
2)Mary and the Spirit: 721 For the first time in the plan of salvation and because his Spirit had prepared her, the Father found the dwelling place where his Son and his Spirit could dwell among men. 723 In Mary, the Holy Spirit fulfills the plan of the Father's loving goodness.
3)Mary and the Son: 964 Mary's role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from it. 973 By pronouncing her "fiat" at the Annunciation and giving her consent to the Incarnation, Mary was already collaborating with the whole work her Son was to accomplish.
4)724 In Mary, the Holy Spirit manifests the Son of the Father, now become the Son of the Virgin. She is the burning bush of the definitive theophany. Filled with the Holy Spirit she makes the Word visible in the humility of his flesh.
